Chapter 7

.

He came outta the car and stared at me with furrowed brows. 

"Uhm I'm very sorry, really really sorry " I apologized. 

He stared at me, not saying anything so I just stood there. 

He boarded back his car and they drove into the hospital compound. 

I boarded the bus and went home.

I met Caden on the couch, already awoke. 

He smiled when he saw me and I smiled back at him. 

I sat beside him and placed him on my thighs. 

"OK honey, I want you to be honest with me okay? " I told him and he nodded. 

"Why and how did you guys get to my resto? " I asked him and he was silent for a while. 

"Uhm.... We found a picture in your room " he started. 

"Whose picture? " I asked him. 

"I don't know, it was a picture of a man so I told Cody that it might be dad but Cody said no. We were arguing so we decided to come ask you " he narrated. 

"You both disobeyed me just for a picture?! " I yelled at him and he flinched making me regret it. 

"OK but how did you get to my resto? You've only been there once " I asked him. 

"We also found your card and the address of your resto was there so we told the bus driver to please take us to you by giving him the card " he narrated. 

Wow! Just wow! This is the best story ever, lame! 

"When Cody gets well, you're both getting punished " I stated clearly and he wore a sad face. 

"Now tell me what you wanna eat lemme go make dinner " 

"Mashed potatoes " he replied. 

"OK " I smiled at him and went to the kitchen to make it while he watches cartoons.

I have to be strong, though I feel like breaking down and crying the hell out, I have to be strong. 

I have to take care of Caden but if anything happens to Cody, I'll never be able to forgive myself and the guilt will eat me up. 

I made the mashed potatoes then took Caden to bath him. 

I finished bathing him and dressed him up in a long sleeve shirt and a sweat pant. 

He went downstairs while I went to freshen up. 

I freshened up and dressed up as well before going downstairs. 

I prepared the table and fed Caden.

After feeding him, he went to continue his cartoons while I ate.

I was done so I cleared the table. 

I gave Caden a hoodie and I took one myself. 

I carried him out, locked the door and we went to the hospital.

We're not letting Cody sleep alone at the hospital, no.

We arrived at the hospital and I made Caden sleep on the three person sofa in Cody's hospital room.

I on the other hand, sat on the chair and rested my head on Cody's hospital bed. 

It took quite a while for sleep to envelope me unlike every other days before.

"Miss Amy " I heard my name in a low tone and I slowly opened my eyes. 

I regained myself and sat up. 

In front of me was the doctor and he smiled at me.

"I'm here to check up on Cody" he said and I nodded, giving him way. 

"OK, his heart beat is intact and everything seems to be normal " he said.

"Just few hours for it to be 24 hours and we'll see if he responded to the treatment " he said and I nodded.

He exited the room and I sighed. 

Few hours, just few hours for my Cody to feel alive again. 

Caden was still asleep so I left him sleep before we go home. 

He woke up a while later and after kissing Cody goodbye, we went home. 

It's Sunday and Sunday's aren't really that fun so I think it's a good day for me to sulk.

We ate the leftovers of mashed potatoes after freshening up of course. 

I decided to go check if Bryan opened the resto today cause I left him yesterday and didn't go back. 

I took Caden along with me to the resto and Bryan did open it. 

"Hey " 

"Amy " he called when he saw me. 

I smiled at him and he smiled back.

"How's your son? " he asked and I sighed. 

"We don't know for now, we have few hours to know if he's gonna wake, go into coma or... Yunno, die " I told him and sighed again. 

Caden glanced up at me when he heard me say "die" but I flashed him a heart warming smile. 

"He's gonna be okay " Bryan said and I nodded. 

"Ik, at least that's what I believe " I told him. 

"Well, I sold a lot yesterday and you'll be surprised if you see what we earned " he said. 

"Well, that's cool cause I'm in need of cash " I told him. 

"Ik, considering what happened yesterday of course you'll need money " he fired at me. 

He brought all out the money and handed it over to me. 

"Thanks " I told him and he nodded with a smile. 

"Do I have to pay you? " I asked him with a weird look. 

"Don't worry, I took the tips " he blurted out. 

"Bish that's still my money " I snapped at him and he chuckled. 

"Oh please " He rolled his eyes.

I had Bryan make Caden French fries and serve him juice. 

My phone rang and it was an unknown number.

"Hello? " I said into the phone. 

"Hello Miss Amy, all competitors are to show up immediately at the company " the person said at the other end. 

"Uhm OK thanks " I told him and he hung up. 

"Bryan please take care of Caden for me, I have to go to the company for the competition " I told him. 

"That means we weren't disqualified " Bryan said and I nodded with a smile.

"Gimme your contact, in case I have something to tell you " I told him and he gave me his contact. 

I kissed Caden goodbye and left. 

I arrived at the company and went in without stress this time, no climbing windows.

Different cooks were there and we are given seats to sit down, waiting for the so called announcement they have for us. 

A woman dressed in a suite stood on the podium and flashed us an ugly smile. 

Just kidding, it was a beautiful smile. 

"Y'all welcome. The reason for this meeting is to announce to y'all that the competition will be tomorrow and that's Monday "She blurted and everyone gasped. 

What the fuck? So soon? We haven't even prepared for it yet! But well, I need the money so it's good for me. 

"That's not all, every competitor have to fill form so y'all go out there to that desk and take a number " she said with a smile. 

"Fill the form and submit it back then get ready for the competition tomorrow which starts at 10:00 " she announced and left the podium. 

So many people and before we'll all get numbers, it would be already Monday. 

Uhhh.....  Lemme call Bryan to close the resto and go check up on Cody cause it would soon be his time to wake up. 

I called Bryan and told him what to do before hanging up. 

Now let's focus here.

We already took numbers and unfortunately for me, I got number 105, how sad. 

OK so the competitors were grouped and I fell in group 3.

I don't know how they're gonna handle this cause there's just too many people. 

I checked my wrist watch and it was already late, 17:05.

Cody should have been awake by now so why hasn't Bryan called me yet? Is it a bad news? I'm feeling sad now. 

After a while, I was able to take a form, filled it and submitted it. 

My phone rang and twas Bryan which made me heave a sigh of relief. 

Thought he was never gonna call. 

"Yes Bryan, tell me, did my Cody ask about me? " I asked with a bright smile. 

"Uhm Amy " he called lowly. 

I can't see him but I could tell from his voice that something was wrong. 

"No please don't tell me " I said, my voice already cracking up. 

"Did he go into coma?" I asked. 

"Uhmm.." he hesitated on the phone. 

That means my Cody didn't wake up nor go into coma? Which means he's... He's gone?

"I'm sorry " he said but his voice felt so low like and everything turned blur as I collapsed to the ground.
