Forced Marriage (Episode 42)
Chapter 42
"Mom, where are you going?" Ruby asked Kim seeing how she was wearing. A fine vintage white trouser with a black top. She completed the outfit with a black heels and a black small handbag.
"Can't I go out and have some fun?" She asked in a teasing manner.
"Nope, but you don't usually wear like this unless you want to get into someone's skin to prove a point."
"Seems like my daughter knows me well." She smiled at Ruby with a little giggle. "I'm going to talk to Lauren. And apologise."
"How I wish I could come with you and see how you use your magic in persuading people."
"You already have it. You managed to get Lauren to come back. Now dig deeper and you'll find it there on you." She smiled holding her daughter's shoulder. Showing her how proud she was.
"But will Lauren comply? You know how she is," she worried remembering how stubborn she was.
"Don't worry baby. She will," she left and went to the exact place where they promised to meet. Kim already found Lauren waiting for her. She looked a bit distant, and just like that, she realised that she hasn't forgotten what had happened during the weekend. It looked like a dark cloud was hanging over her head dropping the memory of that night over and over again.
"Lauren?" she called out to her bringing her mind back to the present.
"Hi," she greeted back looking at Kim.
"I'm glad you came. We need to talk."
"If all this is about Danny, then please. There's nothing to talk about."
"You could say it does involve him, but I just want to apologise on his behalf." Lauren looked at Kim questioningly on why she wanted to apologise on behalf of his son.
"Lauren, I wasn't aware of your wedding agreement to Danny. I just got the updated news from your mother during the weekend, about Danny forcing you to marry him. I sincerely apologise as a mother for what my son did to you. And then later he decides to hurt you. I know him, and I know that there is a big reason behind his doing."
"Please, can we please talk about something else," she begged not wanting to hear anymore about this situation.
"Okay. I came here as a mother Lauren. What you're doing is wrong to everyone. You can't keep Aurora away from us and especially Danny. He needs to know so he can take his responsibilities. And raising a child is no child's play. I know because I have two of them. Soon Aurora will be asking about his father. What are you going to tell her. Things might be in control now, but you can never control everything in life. And that starts with putting your pride aside and think for the benefits of tomorrow.
Also. Your mother is stressing a lot about you and what do you do, zone her out. You are punishing yourself and your child by doing so.
Think about it. Think about the future of Aurora. You need to set your pride aside and do what's right. That's all I wanted to say." She looked at Lauren and held her hand.
"We're here, and we will always support you. That, I promise you," she said and took a sip of the water in the table.
Lauren felt like crying that very moment. Thinking about what Kim had just said and her daughter at the same time. And she was right. She hadn't thought about the future and how it would effect her. She let her fears take control of her.
"I'll think about it," she said looking at Kim with assurity. At the same time, the very same fear Kim has described was crawling at the back of her spine.
...
Looking at the triangles drawn on the ceiling, together with the lights blinding her eyes, Kayler went far mile in her head. She could only hear his heart beat and his breathing while she layed her head on his chest.
Her hair spreaded all over him while they both covered themselves with a white sheet.
"Tell me, what are you thinking about." He broke the silence in the room.
"Us," she simply replied still looking at the ceiling.
"Us? What do you mean by us."
"I mean all this. Like what is there between us. Everytime we meet, we always end up in bed even if I told myself clearly that I ain't gonna do it."
"Do you regret all this?"
"No. Not even a single thing," she got up and sat properly. Total silence hit the room again. Making Ryan think about what she had said. He too had asked himself a few of these questions, but never considered into them deeply. But coming to think about it, she was right. They never considered themselves as a couple nor something, but they'd always go to bed together.
"I just made the moment awkward, didn't I?"
"No. I'm just thinking about what you said. Come with me."
"But I have work, I can't possibly just come with you."
"Don't worry, I will talk to your boss. Just for 3 days."
"Okay." She wondered what Ryan could have been thinking that he ask her to be absent.
...
"Hey," Ruby spoke over the phone looking at the grey house right in front of her.
"Hi, how are you?"
"I'm fine, actually I'm outside your house."
"I'll be right down in a moment," Liam responded getting out of the house. As told, she found Ruby standing at the road near his house.
Liam gave her a warm hug, enlightening her up. She looked at his messy hair and smiled.
"Ohh sorry. I wasn't expecting a visit, especially from my girlfriend," he explained rubbing his hair more.
"I wasn't sure that I'd come. But here I am."
"Come on, let's go in. But my parents are home." A little shiver approached Ruby when she heard that making Liam smile.
"Umm..."
"Don't worry, they won't see you. Now come." He sneaked her inside up to his room. She let out a small breath she was holding beneath her and smiled looking at Liam.
"I hope they didn't see me." She said looking around the room.
"I know it's not as huge as yours, but this is my place. Welcome and feel free." A giggle escaped Ruby's lips while Liam gave him a small performance.
"Charming."
"I'll be right back," he left and Ruby studied the place. They were frame pictures on the side table of him with his friends, family and one with a little girl. She walked around the bed and found another frame of them together. A few music note books were placed on the table as well.
She looked at the white wall, and the white curtains brightening up the entire room. She admiring the whole room, especially the few pictures where he was performing.
Liam came back holding a glass of water and a bowl of something for the both of them to snack.
"You know that wasn't necessary, right?"
"It is for me. This is the first time my girlfriend visited me. I want to make her feel at home." He closed the door and sat besides her on the bed.
"Why didn't you tell me you were coming?"
"I was still unsure about it."
"And how are things?"
"It's just all mixed up. Danny is back and he showed up the very same night Lauren came to dinner.".
"Ohh gosh, sounds like nothing went well."
"I don't even know what to do anymore."
"You've played your part. Now it's time to let nature and god decide on how it's going to be from now on.".
"Yeah, you're right. And you?"
"I'm only home for a week. Gosh I'm going to miss my girl when I go back to campus." He ran his hands slowly right through her face and tucked her hair behind his ear.
A small blush came from from Ruby looking at Liam with desirable eyes.
