Episode 19

                  Semi final

"How can you do this Charles?" Howard asked as they both sat in his office while his phone kept on ringing.

"The truth had to be told someday"Charles replied.

"And you choose to do that now?"Howard asked.

"I had no choice. The rumour about Sonia and i was ruining the little progress I made with Dawn. I had to clarify things before I lose her for good"Howard replied.

"You could have done that some other time or you could have talk to me about it. Your action has ruined a lot of things for you and everyone"Howard said.

"The internet is buzzing about your marriage scandal and the higher up keep on calling me wanting to know if things are in order?" Howard added as he picked up his phone to answer the call.

Charles went through his fans comment. Some were bad and insultive and some were sad words, stating how they will miss having him single.

He was still going through the comment when he came over a particular one. 

"Where are you going?"Howard asked as Charles stood up to leave.

"Am sorry Howard but I have to do something" He said as he ran out of Howard office.

   

  Dawn sat in one of the toilet thinking about the past event. Charles had actually told everyone about her being his wife. He decided to do something about the rumour and it turns out to be this.

He should have warned her before he went ahead with his plan. She like the fact that he decided to speak out about her but she doesn't like the fact that she is being the centre of attraction right now.

Ever since what happened, Everyone at work keeps starring and whispering amongst themselves.

Luke didn't come to work which got her worried because of what she said to him last night.

Just so she wouldn't have to see them talk and look at her. She decided to stay in the toilet. Locked away from everyone but that proved to be futile.

👤"Did you watch the news today?"

"Of course. Turns out that girl working for the vice president is Charly wife" 👤

👤"I still can't believe it. How did he manage to fool everyone for so long?"

"Didn't you hear him say that he left Dawn five years ago" 👤

👤"I did. That got me wondering why the most beautiful girl couldn't even hold onto him" 

"She might have been ugly five years ago and if I were Charles I would have done the same thing"👤

👤"In other words. They don't suit each other. He might claim that he is married but he wouldn't want to ruin his career all because of her and she would be a dummy to accept him back into her life after what he did to her five years ago" 

Dawn sat listening to their gossip and insults. She had known that Charles action will lead to this sort of thing. She wanted to go out and tell those gossipy women to shut up but she didn't have the courage. 

She didn't have the courage to act like Charles wife. All she had wanted was a divorce and not to get entangled into more of it.

Her peaceful life is all ruined because of Charles decision.

When the ladies left, she got out of the toilet heading back to her office to collect her things so she could leave afterall Luke didn't come to work today. She had the day to herself.

She walked out of the company only to be swarmed by people who began to throw eggs at her.

👤"You theif!"

"Get out of Charles life!"👤

👤"You are not fit to be his wife!"

"Keep on throwing the eggs so she smells as rotten like it" 👤

They said as they kept on throwing the eggs.

The security men came to her aid and while they were pulling her out of the chaos. A car arrived and Charles got out of it. Coming to shield her from them.

On seeing Charles they stopped throwing and began to scream out in joy for seeing their favourite artist.

"Enough!"He yelled at them and immediately they stopped.

"You have no right to do this to her! She is my wife and I expect her to get the same respect you give me. If anyone of you attack her again. I won't spare you"He threatened as he led her to his car while his manager drove off.

  Dawn sat still while Charles wipe off the egg stain from her face.

"Am sorry. I didn't know they will react like this? When I read a crazy comment about them coming here to hurt you. I rushed over"He explained as he kept on wiping her face.

"Then you shouldn't have said that at the press conference"Dawn replied as she gently nudge his hand away.

"But you told me to rectify the whole thing"He said.

"I did said that but I didn't mean this. It was reckless of you. You put your career in danger and now am also in danger because of your fans"Dawn replied.

"I was just doing it to let everyone know that am not perfect and i wanted you to know how far am willing to go for you" He said making Dawn heart skip a beat.

"I don't need you doing things for me"Dawn replied quickly as she tried to calm her racing heart.

"You can't keep on pushing me away forever" Charles said taking her hand.

"Can't you just understand that we aren't meant to be ?" Dawn asked trying to pull her hand away but he held it tight.

"Giving up is not in my vocabulary Dawn. So forget about me understanding that " he said meaning his words.

"Where are we?"Dawn asked as his manager stopped the car in an unfamiliar house.

"My private place. I come here to get away from fans. Trust me when I say it's a place of solitude. It's just going to be you and me"He said softly.

"Your crazy. Get the car turning. I don't want to be alone with you"She said.

"You have no choice. It's either here or back at the city with those fans who is ready to pounce on you" he said.

"And whose fault is that?"She asked as she got out of the car.

"I know it's my fault but you will just have to endure staying with me"Charles stated as he got down after her.

"That's my point. I don't want to stay with you and it isn't because of your fans being aggressive and protective of you. I just don't want to be close to you"She said.

"Is it because am not worth being close to or is it because of your feelings?"He asked suddenly.

"What feelings?"She asked.

"The feeling that you are trying hard not to feel. I love you Dawn and you feel the same way I do. So why do you keep on denying it?"He asked.

"You don't know what I feel and bes......"

"I do know what you feel"He said as he moved as swift as a cat towards her. Pulling her into his arms while he stared at her.

"The look in your eyes tells me what I want to know"he added and before she could stop him. He kissed her.

Dawn tried to push him away but she find her hand curling themselves around his neck while she pulled his head down towards her for more.

In the past she would have loathe his kisses and touch but she find herself longing for it. Could he be right? Is she really inlove with him? She thought as she silently answered her question.

If she still hates him as much as she did in the past then nothing will force her to accept his kisses but here she is kissing him back desperately. She is inlove with him.

He pulled back to stare at her while they steady their breathing.

"You do love me Dawn or you wouldn't have kissed me back " he said.

She was about to reply when she got a call from her parent.

"Who is it?" Charles asked.

"My parents. They must have watched the news" Dawn replied.

"Pick it"He said and after a few more ring, she picked the call.

"What we watched on the news. Is it the truth?"Dawn mother asked.

"It is"Dawn replied.

"That Charles is a bas.....where are you now? Come back home"She said.

"I just can't leave my work like that?"Dawn replied.

"Do you still intend to be around that boy. How dare he do that to you and he still had the audacity to lie to us. He deserves a medal"Her mother said.

"I also lied to you. Why are you only angry at Charles?"She asked as she stared at Charles who stood watching.

"You will also get your own punishment for lying but I want you to come back home"her mother warned.

She didn't get the chance to reply because Charles took the phone from her.

"This is Charles mother......it's because we are both together......am afraid that will be impossible......I know and I will always be sorry for that.......I love Dawn and I don't think I want to let her go"He said into the receiver.

He stood listening for a while and then he handed the phone back to Dawn.

"What did she say?"Dawn asked.

"She called me all sort of names and told me to bring you back"He said.

"Let's listen to her and just go back and....."

"No. Am not taking you back to the city Dawn.  Your life is In danger "he said as he walked past her into the house.

She went after him intent on getting him to talk when she got a text on her phone.

"Just like I promise. It's your annulment papers. From now on you are officially free from Charles. I would have like to give you this news in person but since I was rejected. I decided to send it to you. You don't have to worry about my feelings for you. I will try to move on because I know Charles is the one you love. Take care of yourself.

"Aren't you coming?'Charles asked.

"Our marriage have been annulled Charles"Dawn said suddenly.

"Since when?"He asked.

"Since today"She replied.

"So? What do you intend to do?"He asked as he silently wait for her  response.
