            Chapter Eighteen

Charles who hadn't heard Dawn kept on hitting Luke who had suddenly stopped hitting Charles.

"I said you should stop!"Dawn yelled as she went towards them to push Charles away from Luke.

"Do you want to kill him?"Dawn asked as she helped Luke sit up while she gave Charles an angry look.

"He did that intentionally. He did the interview just to spite me" Charles said.

"I already told you that I have no idea what you are talking about"Luke said as he held his jaw.

"You really want to die in my hands right!"Charles said walking towards Luke again but Dawn was quick to block him.

"Don't!"She yelled at him.

"Are you taking his side?"Charles asked.

"Just leave. Don't make matter worse and leave"She said 

"Are you telling me to leave because of that guy?"Charles asked.

"Think whatever you want. All I want is for you to leave. You should be finding a way to clear your name not by doing this or do you secretly like the fact that your name is being linked to Sonia's"She asked and he stared at her for a long time before moving away.

Without a word, he left for the elevator, leaving the room without a backward glance. 

"That hurts" Luke said a while later as Dawn helped him attend to his injury.

"Serves you right for fighting with him"Dawn replied.

"Are you talking down to your boss?"He asked reminding her that she is just his employee.

"Am sorry"She said.

"He came out of no where and started to attack me. If I didn't try to protect myself. He would have......"

"I know for a fact that you were the one being interviewed. Though you had your face blurred. I can recognise your voice"Dawn said suddenly.

"Fine. I did it"He replied.

"Why? Why do that when you know that Charles has no feeling for Sonia?"She asked.

"I did it for you."He said softly.

"Pardon?"

"I said I did it for you. I did it just so he would back off. I did it just so you would keep on hating him. I did it because am in love with you"He said starring at her and she took a few step away from him. Wanting to keep a distance.

"I didn't know you felt that way about me?"She asked.

"Well now you know and I do think you feel something for me too. You wouldn't have to defend me from charles if you didn't feel something" he said.

"I only took your side a while ago to stop Charles from doing more harm. If things had escalated. It will be in the news tomorrow and his fans would be very angry"She said.

She had stopped Charles so he wouldn't do anything that would ruin his reputation. To him it might be that she was taking Luke side but it had been him she was thinking about.

"So your saying it was Charles you were giving your support to a while ago?"Luke asked and when she didn't answer. He asked.

"Why? You said you hate him. You said you don't love him?" Luke said.

"And I still feel the same. I just didn't like seeing Charles doing that to you, who is my boss" Dawn replied.

"You only see me as your boss right?" He asked.

"Am sorry Sir. But I only see you as a boss. I don't think am ready to be with anyone"She said

"Then am willing to wait"

"You better don't do that! Am not worth waiting for. Do all you can to get  me out of your heart cause I can't reciprocate your feelings. Goodnight sir"Dawn said as she left his office.

             THE NEXT DAY 

As Dawn head to work. She kept wondering what she would say to Charles once she sees him.

She had been rude to him last night and he would have thought that she had been supporting Luke but she had only said those things to make him stop and prevent him from doing further harm to his career.

He must be angry because he didn't call and he didn't text. She thought as she walked into the office.

What is she thinking? Why is she worried about what Charles think?.

She walked past the office conference room when she saw reporters miling in the room and there was Charles sitting at the front.

Is he going to have a press conference? She thought as she walked into the room..

"Is your relationship with Sonia true. Your fans want to know if the rumour going around is the truth?"A reporter asked him.

"My relationship with Sonia is purely a working relationship. Sonia and I aren't dating"He replied coolly as suddenly his gaze landed on her amongst the crowd.

"In fact I have something to confess"He said still starring at her.

"Have been lying to all my fans and co workers.  I was once married five years ago. A marriage which lasted for a week. A week where I had hurt the woman who married me. After abandoning her. I  came to work for the industry not telling anyone about my marriage. Five years have gone by and I met my wife again"

"And because I had been cruel to her in the past. She told me how much she hate me. Made me feel the pain I made her go through in the past"

"Am not telling you this to justify my mistake. Am telling you this to make you realise that am not the perfect Charles you all thought me to be. I make mistakes too and have lied and cheated you all most especially my wife who I had once been cruel to in the past"

"I hope that you can all forgive me and I also hope that my wife will forgive me too"He ended and as soon as he did. The reporters began to bombard him with questions.

"So you are saying nothing is going on with you and Sonia?"

"What do you expect from your fans now?"

"Who is your wife? Does she even exist?" 

On hearing that last question. Charles who had stood up to leave. Turned to give a reply to the reporter.

"Yes she exist and she is right here amongst us. Remember you once told me that I will not be able to say the truth for the fear of losing my fans. Well what do you think about this?"He asked the last question as he stared at Dawn who stood transfixed.

Leaving the podium. He walked the few distance that separated them and stopped right in front of her while the reporters took their picture.

"What are you doing Charles?"Dawn asked.

"Clearing my name like you told me to and most importantly trying to win back my wife"He murmured before he pulled her into his arms to kiss her right in front of everyone.
